About Concrete Floors, Why Densify?
Any exposed concrete floor should be densified (or ‘hardened’) to increase abrasion resistance, eliminate dusting, and improve resistance to liquid penetration and staining.
Densifying improves the gloss and durability of diamond-polished or burnished finishes. It is a crucial step in polishing, especially for soft or damaged concrete.
The Why Of “Protector”?
Where appearance is important, whether colored or natural, should be treated with a breathable stain protector. This treatment adds a thin polymer layer that helps resist liquid penetration, improves gloss, and enriches the appearance of color.
Stain Protector is an integral part of finishing and maintaining a polished or burnished floor. It is both a construction and a maintenance item, since it will wear away over time and must be renewed periodically.

Is Exposed Concrete Truly a Low-Maintenance Floor?
Concrete floors generally require very light maintenance, but proper maintenance is mandatory. Exposed concrete simply requires removal of contaminants and gritty particles, with a neutral cleaner, to prevent damage to the surface and deeper penetration.
It does not need to be sealed or waxed, eliminating the frequent stripping and waxing required by VCT. However, it should be cleaned regularly – daily in many circumstances – using mild cleansers to remove dirt, grit and debris that can abrade the stain protector layer and compromise the finish. Stain protector application should be renewed as needed, which varies depending on traffic.
